Understanding Small Jumping Spiders
Appearance
Smaller varieties of jumping spiders measure 4 to 5 mm in body size. Like their larger counterparts, these small jumping spiders have eight eyes, which allow for superb vision. The carapace of the jumping spider can be pivoted 45 degrees. Jumping spiders are also admired as some of the most colorful arachnids in the world.
Behavior
Jumping spiders earned their name as a result of their aggressive hunting tactics. Also sometimes known as tiger spiders, these arachnids creep up on their prey and pounce. Small jumping spiders are capable of forcing insects twice their size into submission. Unlike other spiders, jumping spiders tend to be diurnal in nature and are commonly seen by humans.
