One common difference between rats and mice is size. Rats can be twice the size of mice. Their snouts are also less triangular than mice. Both can have fur that is brown, black, gray or white.

Rats on average live 1 to 2 years depending on the environment and potential predators in the area.

Mouse poop is usually small and either brown or black with pointed ends.
